UNDERSTANDING THE CHALLENGE

The challenge at hand was to design a website that aligns with the company's branding, vision, and objectives while also meeting the needs of their users. The owner, who had recently established the company, had not conducted any prior research or design for the website. Thus, the solution required strategic development to ensure the website's usability and effectiveness.

01 RESEARCH

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

I analyzed and compared competitors to gain insights surrounding significant features and design patterns used to satisfy user needs.

USER INTERVIEWS

After understanding the competitors, I then outlined and conducted interviews with 6 adults who varied in age, gender, and travel experience gauge what users expected, wanted, and needed.

KEY INSIGHTS

After synthesizing research findings, I distilled 5 key insights for the most effective design, based on a thorough analysis of user needs and preferences.

02 IDEATION

FRAMING THE CHALLENGE

To reinforce the project's direction, I translated research insights into "How Might We" questions, which centered on both user needs and goals.

How might we improve users exploration process in the forms of efficiency and accuracy to ensure their convenience and quality of stay?

(Targets users goals and challenge of exceeding initial time dedication)

How might we increase the effectiveness of filters without demanding more effort fom users?

(Targets users most used feature and their challenges surrounding the time and quality of their search)

How might we engage users in the benefits and perks of a stay in a pleasant and enjoyable way?

(Targets users desire for a quality and convenient stay)

FLOWS

Comprehensive user and task flow outlines were created to understand the user's path throughout the application.

03 DESIGN

DIGITAL SKETCHES

I designed multiple digital sketches and generated screen ideas to iterate on in the beginning of the design phase.

BRANDING

Executive Stays kept their branding requirements and style minimal and clean.

HIFI WIREFRAMES

While building the wireframes, I acknowledging the significance of exactness and meticulousness. I composed high resolution wireframes with a calculated emphasis on functional aesthetics based on insights gained during the research and ideation process.

04 PROTOTYPE

PROTOTYPE

In order to improve the functionality of the design, I prototyped flows of three significant user tasks and conducted usability tests on the overall experience. This method pinpointed parts requiring enhancement and supplied critical input for honing the design.

05 TESTING

USABILITY TESTING

ITERATIONS

After conducting usability testing and reviewing the feedback, I realized that I missed an opportunity to incorporate a pricing feature. Instead of just adding the feature, I realized an opportunity to implement user customization options in the settings. This would allow users to select and reorder the desired horizontal scroll(s) on their home screen to customize their experience. By leaving the recommended vertical scroll as a default, the user experience was enhanced beyond the original design.

FINAL PRODUCT

A digital experience designed for intuitive interactions, has a clean interface, is fulfilling and efficient, and will keep users. engaged in their search for their next travel/vacation stay.

LESSONS AND REFLECTIONS

  1. Mindfulness

Throughout my design work, I've become more aware of the benefits of practicing mindfulness. Although focusing on a narrow perspective can keep me engaged in a task, it can also cause me to miss important opportunities. By being mindful of the needs and preferences of users, I can create more intuitive and effective interfaces.

  2. Brainstorming

Brainstorming has always been a key aspect of my design process. However, the more projects I work on, the more I realize that there's always room for more brainstorming. Each phase of the design process presents new opportunities to generate ideas, and the more ideas that fail, the better the final solution will be.

  3. Iteration

I've also come to realize the importance of iteration in the design process. While it's important to iterate early on, it's just as effective to iterate later in the process if the expected delivery is on schedule. By continuously refining and improving our designs through iteration, we can ensure that we are delivering the best possible product to our users.
